From six to eight years some themes will still be suitable for a boy (particularly the Marine theme from Freckles) but geometrics are probably the most suitable allowing accessories to lend atmosphere to the room as the child changes his interests as he grows older. For the older boy plains and checks work well to last from ten through teenage without costing mum a fortune in continual upgrading of style.
